Velcro

When Matt and I were pregnant with Zach, we were sitting at his parent's house talking with his dad. He loved to give us advice. Some of it was wonderfully practical and other pieces give us the best laughter even now.

Tennis shoes.

It was one lecture that he made me promise I would pay particular attention to. He made me promise everything short of swearing that I would be a great parent and send my child to kindergarten in tennis shoes with laces. To give our son a head start in school he absolutely must know how to tie his shoes. That was Todd's stern yet friendly advice for us.

So not to long ago I bought the girls tennis shoes. I lamented in the aisle with a friend about whether or not I wanted to have to deal with tieing Halleah's shoes every day. I decided that since she is only 2 & 1/2 I would go with velcro one more time.

I have to tell you... I have felt guilty about that decision since I have made it. Every day when I put Halleah's shoes on I hear his voice in the back of my head. And with the guilt comes a smile and a wonderful memory of Todd.

Good thing Kindergarten is a few years off... I have time to teach Halleah so we don't disappoint him :)
